Deciding on Siding

You know when you buy a new car and all of a sudden you start seeing it everywhere? It's as if 80% of the population owns that same car and you never noticed before. We call it 'brain filters' - we've had it for willow trees, decks, pergolas, and even strollers - and now we have it for white siding.
A lot of the homes on the street we live have white siding, and they all look yellow, old, stained, and unkept. We're not too sure if it depends on the homeowner as to how quickly the white ages, or if it all will turn yellow and dull eventually. We do know that it really got us thinking about the choice of white.

Is vinyl siding different from HardiePlank lap siding from a maintenance standpoint? Will it hold up better to the elements in terms of colour changes? We have so many questions and things to look into.
A sales representative for Hardie products told us that there's a couple of homes in the Orillia area that have white siding, but other than that there are no other white Hardie homes in Ontario that he's aware of. If you've got white Hardie products please let us know! We would love to chat with you.
As for now, we've decided we have to open our minds to some other colours in case the white falls through.

All of these colours are still HardiePlank. Which would you choose for the #ClearyFarmhouse?
The below pictures are all from Pinterest and they are not likely Hardie product, however they represent homes similar to the colours in Hardie 1, 2, 7, and 8!
